Let’s talk about getting dressed.
I know you get dressed every morning (if not, hey – I’m not judging – you do you!) – and by getting dressed we automatically think about putting on clothes, BUT what if I told you there’s another totally essential way to get dressed that you’re most likely not doing? Basically, what I’m saying is that you’re a nudist.
This type of dressing happens before the clothes – it’s the getting dressed appetizer, if you will. Okay, fine – bad metaphor – but you get what I mean. Anyway, it’s called ‘aromatic dressing’ and it’s totally going to change your skin-care, self-love, detoxification, and moisturization game.
Aromatic dressing is not only an incredible way to boost your overall wellness and/or target specific health concerns, it’s also a really simple and effective way to eliminate toxic self-care products from yo’ life. Which we all know is super importante.
All you have to do is combine 5 drops of your fav essential oils (you can mix and match them however your heart desires) with about 10mls of carrier oil – fractionated coconut oil is my personal jam – and voila! you’re ready to get dressed.
Some peeps love to mix up a new batch each time depending on what oils they’re needing in that moment – but I’m obsessed with efficiency – so I mix up a bigger batch in a 2oz glass bottle and just use that until it runs out – then I’ll make a fresh batch.
I’ve added some step-by-step instructions at the bottom of this post, but here’s a quick rundown of how to do it: dry brush your entire body (check out this post to read about why dry brushing is one of the best self-care practices you can add to your daily routine), hop in the shower and rinse off, then dry off completely and rub your aromatic dressing all over your body – starting from your feet and working your way up towards your heart.
You guys, you are going to be totally blown away by how eff’ing soft this makes your skin, and how ridiculously good you’ll smell – it absorbs into the skin immediately so you don’t have that goopy, lotion-y residue sitting on top of your skin after applying. Not to mention, the list of health benefits that the oils are providing as they absorb into your body is practically endless.
This is also incredible because it stimulates the lymphatic system, which is responsible for distributing nutrients and clearing toxins from the body, so it’s gonna rock your world in so. many. ways. The lymphatic system doesn’t have it’s own pump, and relies on our movements to get it working.
Another thing I LOVE about this ritual is that it gives you the opportunity to shower your body with kindness. Make sure to take your time and think nice things about yourself while you do it – so, instead of pinching your love handles and scrunching up your face in disgust, think about all the things you love about your body, and thank it for all of the incredible things it does and allows you to do. It’s a truly amazing thing and we should shower it with love every chance we get.
I know lots of people who love the combo of 10mls fractionated coconut oil, 2 drops of Frankincense, 2 drops of Lavender, and 1 drop of Wild Orange – it sounds weird, but when you smell it – HEAVEN. Frank is incredible for it’s anti-aging effects, cellular regeneration, reducing inflammation, boosting the immune system, and the list goes on. Lavender is incredibly soothing to the skin and emotions. Wild Orange is cleansing and uplifting. YUM.
I recently switched it up and made a new recipe that I’m reaaally digging right now, it’s 10mls of fractionated coconut oil, 2 drops of Lemongrass, 2 drop of Grapefruit, 1 drop of Bergamot, 1 drop of Frankincense. It smells insane and makes you feel like superwoman. Lemongrass is incredible for detoxifying the body, supporting digestion, toning + purifying the skin, and shedding excess water weight. Grapefruit promotes clear skin, detoxifies the body, boosts metabolism, reduces cellulite, uplifts the mood, and clarifies the mind. Bergamot purifies + cleanses the skin, has a calming effect on the emotions, and increases feelings of self-acceptance. Frank is amazing for all of the reasons listed in the previous paragraph – and it also increases the efficacy of other oils, so I love to use to as a little oily turbo-booster, if you will. 🚀
I could go on and on (and on) about potential aromatic dressing combos, but it’s a super personal choice – so I’ll leave the mixing and matching up to you! Some people even like to use an energizing combo in the morning, and a relaxing combo at night. The options are endless! Of course feel free to drop me a line with any questions, per usual.

- 10mls of carrier oil (I personally love fractionated coconut oil)
- 5 drops of the essential oils of your choice
- Dry brush your entire body (skip your face unless you have a face dry brush), starting at your feet and making upwards strokes towards your heart center
- Hop in the shower to wash off dead skin cells and impurities
- Once out of the shower and dried off, add your carrier oil + essential oils to small bowl (or mix up a bigger batch in a glass bottle)
- Starting at your feet, massage the aromatic dressing upwards towards your heart (don’t forget to tell your body thank you and that you eff’ing LOVE IT – because it’s amazing).
