you've been doing this for lifetimes

At times, it descends -

the stomach-sinking doubt

the sharp point of despair:

“it’s so hard

being human” -

a thought form

that suddenly

engulfs,

like a thick blanket

of stale-tasting fog.

But then,

once there’s space,

calm and clear wisdom -

with the most familiar voice -

bubbles up

from within,

“oh, but my darling,

you’ve been doing this

   for

        lifetimes.”

And, at once,

my jaw unlocks,

my shoulders melt back,

a cool breath deepens,

eyes brighten

and shift skywards.

This simple reminder,

it’s simple effect:

resilience remembered,

resolution restored.
